Vyke VoIP reaches Cloud 9

Customers of the UK-based Vyke Communications PLC will soon have 10,000 Hotspots from where to jump on Cloud 9, or at least, on The Cloud Networks Limited . The two companies – of which the former is a communications solutions provider, and the latter a global wireless broadband purveyor AND a Red Herring Top 100 Company – have tied up to provide users access to seamless Mobile VoIP calling services from any of the 10,000+ hotspots operated by The Cloud Networks Limited in the UK, Germany and the Nordic Countries, including 16 high-density metropolitan areas such as Canary, Wharf, Manchester, Amsterdam and London. For a country-wise list of the Wi-Fi locations

Apart from earning cheers and customers by the local public coming under these Wi-Fi zones, Vyke will also earn the goodwill of frequent roaming users, who can run up quite a bill when using their mobile phones abroad – something which Mobile VoIP nullifies.

Speaking for Vyke Communications, Executive Vice-President of Sales, Jan Christian Berger said that Vyke’s Mobile VoIP service combined with The Cloud’s wireless network represented a shift in the Mobile Telecom Paradigm. “Access to citywide Wi-Fi zones means that Vyke users living or working in these areas will be able to access low cost mobile VoIP communication services at virtually any point during their day-to-day lives.” He said. “The power behind our relationship with The Cloud will be evident as users in these areas realize that they always have a low cost alternative available.”

Experts (namely, me) view the move by Vyke as an effort to bank on an already largely successful communication form – cellular phones. With no need for any extra technical know-how other than how to operate a mobile phone, or the need to lug around external hardware accessories like microphone or speakers (and let’s not forget the big hunk of a machine which we call a computer), Vyke has very smartly targeted every vein in the market with its Wi-Fi powered Mobile VoIP service. Add the fact that their customers will have Nine Thousand Hotspots to go VoIP in the UK, and another thousand in the rest of Europe, and you’ll find Vyke’s attempt at market penetration to be not only deep, but also wide. And broad. And extensive. And widespread. And as if these synonyms weren’t enough, The Cloud Networks Limited isn’t satisfied with a cloud cover of 10,000, and is aggressively pursuing a build-out strategy. All the more better for Vyke Mobile VoIP customers, but if it suddenly starts raining in the UK and Europe, don’t blame me.
