Google Voice acquired Gizmo5 VOIP Service

It seems Gizmo5 was always in the race of acquisition and finally Google Voice bought it rather than what we speculated as Skype Deal. How does Gizmo5 + Google Voice changes the VOIP Market? Lets analyse.

Google Voice has been looking for strategic partnership or acquisitions in the VOIP space for some time and Gizmo5 was definately a great choice looking at all the hype revolving around it as next best SIP based VOIP softphone and VOIP service after Skype. With Skype settling their lawsuits, can now concentrate more on the VOIP/SIP scene, Google Voice finally confirmed the acquisition days after the Skype announcement. Great coincidence or Great Timing?

I like Gizmo5 for being simple, easy and providing full SIP support. Gizmo5 has lot of other features often missing in other VOIP services or SIP softphones such as free calls to toll-free numbers. No one can deny the seamless integration between Gizmo5 and Google Voice, which clearly means more and more people are now able to hookup their Google Voice numbers on Gizmo5 and using it as PC Phone service. Google Voice should have integrated with Gtalk much before.

There is however bad news if you currently don't have Gizmo5 account, as Google has suspended new signups for Gizmo5.

What Google Voice + Gizmo5 Really means?

Well, Google Voice has not officially declared what they will do with Gizmo5 besides the obvious integration part but it seems Gtalk will retire soon and Gizmo5's softphone and technology will be used as PC interface of Google Voice. There will be a Google Voice Softphone which is nothing but a Gizmo5 softphone and you can make calls/receive calls from Gizmo5 softphone.

Do let us know what you think this deal means to you and What do you expect from Google Voice.
