Download Gizmo Project 3.0 - Latest Version

GizmoProject, a product of SIPphone, the company behind Gizmocall has released a new version Gizmo Project 3.0.

If you have been using Gizmo Project, there are definately some reasons to upgrade your software. I am not going to list down the whole feature list but some quick items which i think are promising and big changes to earlier version. Talking about avatars and gizmo project skins don't fancy me much, I always look for the real deal, the communication interface changes or free call offers etc.
  1. Now you can exchange files using the Jabber protocol- a handy tool to use while talking over VOIP.
  2. Group Chat/Conferencing- a basic handy feature which is an addition to this product to make it look like the frontline VOIP software. It was high time for them to get it bundled.
  3. Free Voicemail- I use it a lot, most of the time i am away. People drop messages and i do reply. Yeah trust me i do reply almost all messages, emails and even voip voice messages.
  4. FREE call's to any GizmoProject, Yahoo! Messenger, Google Talk, or Windows Live user: WOW this is a big change and i like it. I hate logging into hundreds of IM/VOIP softwares to communicate with frds on other network.
I guess unlike other VOIP softwares, gizmo Project upgrade is a good choice. I highly recommend everyone to upgrade to the newer version. Download Gizmo Project 3.0

If you want to enjoy Gizmo Project with a FREE incoming number, i recommend reading this big list of free incoming geographic VOIP number providers

Finally, i was away for a couple of days, so if you are expecting a reply to your comments/emails, I shall get back to you in a couple of days.

Reasons to avoid updating your FREE VOIP Software

Since January and February, all betamax services such as Voipcheap, Voipbuster, Voipdiscount, lowratevoip has released a newer version. When you start these applications, you get a small bubble window in your taskbar indicating that there is an update to "Voipcheap" etc. Its my strong feeling that typically these updates screw the whole software by patching the older bugs which typically allow you to make free calls for longer time/duration.

For e.g i have the older voipcheap version which never give me any issues. But when i hear people saying that voipcheap dont allow calls after 10 mins and it just says "Your trials calls are over, please re-credit" or whatever that is, I can understand whats really happening with the newer version.
Honestly i have never seen any change in the newer version besides patching those bugs which are actually favoring the users.

My strong advice is not to upgrade these software at all, coz they get all the new free countries if ever they introduce. It just works perfectly well..

You should ask yourself these questions before you update the free voip softwares.

  1. Am i getting any more free minutes?
  2. Is there any major change like free SMS, Free VOIP in number?
  3. The new update will allow to make call to some country to which i can't call now? Very rarely this will happen coz changes are made at server level and not on client level.
If all the answers are NO..just be happy with what you get. There is a old saying. Curiosity kills the Cat :-)

TPad offers free VOIP SIP incoming number

Tpad, a fast growing VOIP company establishing itself as one of the market leaders because of its innovative service and their successful campaigns in UK.

The company has added a great feature to their already feature-rich service. They are now offering free VOIP SIP number which can be forwarded to your local numbers in over 40 countries worldwide. This will mean that the Tpad number which they give out free can be forwarded to your landline/mobile phone in your country.

You can select options such as if the phone is offline/busy/not answered then forward calls to "Your Number". This will make the whole service so cool coz literally no one offers free forwarding to local landline. The 0870 and other free VOIP in number services simply doesnt offer much, becoz those are premier rate numbers and cant be called via free VOIP applications such as Voipcheap, Voipdiscount or lowratevoip etc. The premier rate charges about 1.5pounds per minute or even higher. This makes the whole deal no sense.

Tpad's free SIP number and free forwarding is perhaps the only and best option i can think of. You guys must check them out. Download Tpad from their website

LowrateVoip, VoipDiscount, Voipbuster, Voipcheap Issues due to Fire?

All betamax services such as Voipcheap, Voipbuster, VoipDiscount, LowrateVoip could have been possibly down or facing issues due to recent fire at betamax premises. The official statement said,

" Due to a fire at our server site we are currently experiencing severe technical problems. Our sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused; we are working hard to try and solve the problem as soon as possible. Due to the severity of the disruption it may however take at least one day before we can offer full service again. Please try again later. Click here to continue."

I have received some emails lately complaining about Voipcheap, lowratevoip not crediting their accounts. It could be possible that the fire has completely taken down their billing/payment system..lol. Really funny that they dont have a proper backup plan.

Now this is what happens when a company tries their hands at everything without having a backup plan ready! So betamax sucks? perhaps no. they are still the cheapest and am happy to use them. Hopefully they will learn something from their mistake and we could happily use them for more free voip calls in the years to come :-)

Truphone enables Google Talk for FREE VOIP

How many of you switched to google talk from yahoo messenger, perhaps not many. That was the very reason, Gmail started offering and pushing Gtalk as part of email? Perhaps yes..

But now you have a strong reason to use that tiny little products which has been sitting around on your PC for a while without any serious use. Truphone, another mobile VOIP service (client) allows you to call and receive free calls. Basically, when you download their Truphone client and install it on your handset. It will give you a truphone number, which you can giveout to your buddies who are using Google Talk on their PC. They can simply save that number in Gtalk and make a call to you free of cost.

All this requires a compatible handset and a wi-fi connection to connect to Truphone. If you want to know how to set-up truphone on your handset, please check the guide here

Give it a shot and let us know your experience using this service.

Philips launches World's First non-PC dependent VOIP Phone

Phillips a giant in electronics and now exploring other markets such as VOIP phones etc has launched a completely independent DECT cordless VOIP phone. What i meant by independent is, it doesnt need ur PC to be turned on to use VOIP. They claim it's the world's first ever and one of its kind. They call it VOIP841

According to their official statement, The VOIP841 connects directly to an Ethernet broadband modem rather than a computer, making and receiving Skype-to-Skype and traditional landline calls via the handset or hands-free speakerphone. It can store up to 500 contacts, informing you when each is online, and features 15 polyphonic ringtones to assign to different callers.

So when its available in your country, it might be good idea to grab it. I am prolly gonna get it soon.

E911 & VOIP Nightmare

I assume most of you know whats E911.If not, then in simple words its the 911 helpline service run by US & Canada police in their country. So whats up with VOIP Nightmare? Well if you live in USA or Canada and using one of the VOIP services, you very well know what i am talking about. In fact, you just uttered that word "****" thinking about your crap VOIP provider :-)

To tell you why VOIP is a nightmare when using E911, Lets look at this real story in Canada as reported by The Redding Pilot,

"A Redding resident’s call for help last week went unanswered by police for a short time, after the resident’s Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) service bounced the call to a 911 call center in Canada. Precious seconds ticked by as the Canadian call center worked to relay the call back to Redding police. However, when the call was forwarded to the department, it rang up the routine phone line rather than the 911 line. During emergencies, the routine line is not always answered and doesn’t display such caller information as location. Despite the scrambled phone call, police were able to come to the resident’s aid in time."

Now you understood the gravity of the situation. 911 numbers can't be reach via VOIP. Apparently, many VOIP providers do not have the ability to route calls directly to 911 operators -these calls are first routed to an e911 number, which is then often routed to the PSAP (Public Safety Access Point) administration line. Imagine, someone with heart attack using Vonage to make a call...........

Its high time that this needs to be fixed. FCC is working in that direction. Vonage has taken this seriously and has taken the step forward in making this service work for their voip customers.

Till it becomes a reality and a standard for all VOIP providers, this will be a major flaw in the growth.

Barblu Free Mobile VOIP Solution integrating Gtalk & Skype

I got another update from the 3GSM Conference. This year's conferences featured a lot of Mobile VOIP companies trying to enter this niche but soon to be saturated market. Yeah, Mobile VOIP market is really hotting up and you will see that its the next big thing on the charts! Skype, Gtalk you name it will be available for mobile VOIP and lots of interconnectivity and free calls jargon all over the place.

To add to those never stopping list of Mobile VOIP providers, another company named Barblu which was already offering a mobile Voip solution, now allows contacts from Skype and Google Talk to be transferred to a Wi-Fi enabled mobile phone for free calls.

Barblu is a tiny downloadable software which sits in your mobile or on PC and allows to make free calls anywhere in the world to other Barblu software. Now we have been using PC to PC VOIP for long and we all know its like a common standard now. However imagine using a Mobile VOIP solution and you are able to call from anywhere to literally anywhere in the world.

Imagine you sitting in a cafeteria in Cali and want to call home. You dial your brother who's taking a train to office, but heck you both got a Barblu. You can reach each other as long as you both are registered members and have Barblu running on your mobile and of course you got a internet connection. Barblu supports Wi-Fi connection and best part is it works on almost all mobiles.

The website didn't mention that it works on a set of mobiles like 3G handsets etc. Barblu also offers some cool features listed below:

So if you impressed by those features, why not head on to their Download Page

HP iPAQ 500 VOIP SmartPhone

At 3GSM, HP introduced the latest HP iPAQ device. The device does seems like a sleek and small smartphone that delivers a flexible wireless email experience for business customers through convenient voice control and hands-free operation.

The phone has bulit in Voice Messenger capabilities which uses VOIP to communicate. HP claims, "The HP iPAQ Voice Messenger has built-in Wi-Fi to provide business customers a VoIP alternative to traditional office phone setups".

Earlier, I was using a HP Ipaq phone and they seems too heavy for me. Afte just time, I just let it go and started using the standard light-weight phones. I somehow dont like the heavy stuff. Just dont fit in my idea of a mobile phone.

HP are known to make bulky phones and this new addition doesnt seem to counter that opinion. but if you are looking for a cool VOIP Mobile phone with some great features, this could be a great buy.

According to them, The HP iPAQ 500 series Voice Messenger is expected to be available this spring in the United States direct from HP and select authorized dealers. International pricing and availability for the HP iPAQ 500 series will vary.

Free Incoming Geographic Numbers for your VOIP Phone

There are now literally hundreds of free VOIP softphones or VOIP providers giving away free calls offers. Some of them give PC to PC (pretty standard) and some offer (Pc to Phone). However not many give you a flexibility to use a free incoming number. Today, I will list down some services which offer a FREE incoming Phone number for you, of course its available in some countries, but can be used from anywhere. VOIP in Indian Sub continent-A Parody of Regulations

The recent VOIP regulatory changes in bangladesh and it's overall impact on its neighbors such as India & Pakistan is definitely a long lasting one. When the world is moving towards a FREE VOIP, the indian sub-continent just thinks the opposite.

Recently, Bangladesh cracked down on illegal VOIP and they are now pointing fingers at the foreign VOIP operators for that racket. WOW. Thats like blaming the VOIP providers to cover their own a$$. I wonder what they were doing when these illegal operators started operating? Of course, its important to cut down the illegal operators. However, Whats legal and whats illegal? Who are honest with their customers?

If companies such as Reliance, BSNL/MTNL, charges a VOIP provider to terminate calls to India. Can that be classified as Legal service, perhaps yes, coz the TRAI allows them to do so. However is that really a "Honest service". If you can terminate national calls within India for FREE, why not an international call? Cmon, who pays for receiving a Call in this world?

However in Indian sub-continent, telecom operators care less about people. They are more concentrating on making money which they perhaps don't deserve. Unfortunately, the government ain't doing much about it or they are told to keep quiet. You know what i mean, don't you? This won't change unless the government puts some pressure on this fascist telecom operators to quit their plans and provide an honest service.

One of the main reason, illegal service ever exist, because they ain't legal. If something is legal, why would someone use a illegal service. Relate this to anything in real life and you will notice the same. VOIP call termination charges are completely irrelevant. If companies eradicate them, who will use that small time illegal voip operator for making or receiving calls?

Its time for the Indian sub-continent to balance out the "VOIP minutes" . Charge for outbound traffic and give FREE Inbound traffic should be the key to eliminate illegal VOIP providers. This will not only lead to more revenues but streamline future VOIP growth in a better way.

Jajah unleashes Dynamic Button Beta Release

Jajah, one of the fastest growing VOIP frim has recently announced another great tool called "Dynamic Buttons". The Dynamic buttons are personalized "Call Me' button with a cool profile look.

According to Jajah, By placing a JAJAH Button on your website, weblog, social networking, auction site or in an email signature, viewers are able to reach you by phone, voice mail, email or text message - and you get to define when they can be used, how long they function and even who can use them.

This sounds very similar to what Jaxtr provides, If you haven't checked them out, you should read my earlier post.

Apparently, what Jajah is trying to do is smarter than their competitors. If this becomes successful, you can expect this Jajah gadget getting into millions of those (useless) myspace profiles. You bet really. That gonna give them a lot of audience for free and plus some great members. Remember Jajah offers Calls to other members FREE. That gives great flexibility to have this gadget on dating and myspace sites to hide your real phone number but still want to communicate with others and that too FREE.

That sums it up. Hats off to Jajah for being innovative. I can again predict with Confidence that Jajah will be one of the strongest FREE VOIP companies by this year end and will surpass all expectations in revenue etc. I also strongly feel they will be taken over by a telecom giant in next 1-2 years. Note my words :-)

I already signed up for their beta and hopefully receive an invite soon. Get your Dynamic Button

Another Gizmo Call Hack to make 40 minutes calls

I have been posting updates about Gizmocall or Gizmo Call (some user like it with spaces. lol) almost everyday since it became available. I have posted a hack earlier to make 20 minutes call with Gizmocall. However i have noticed that since yesterday they changed the policy. It seems my hack has made them change the policy :-) People started using those 20 minutes FREE to countries such as India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and other asian countries best known for "Call Termination Hell". Just imagine, gizmocall gets charged for each terminated calls to MTNL/BSNL landlines in India. I cant even imagine the abuse people might have done to Gizmocall. Unfortunately it seems their engineers are not smart enough to fix the bug for now. We were definitely better in finding one though. Thanks to some great visitors who shared their workarounds and ideas which inspired and helped me find some hacks. So that was the story, so now the usual 20 mins hack will no longer sufficient for us to make free calls. Dont worry, we always have solutions for such issues, atleast I do. Thanks to this great visitors (he wanted to be anonymous while posting the comment).

Basically the hack works with multiple operating system on each PC (I have tried with diffrent profiles on XP, but it didnt work). So for example, If you have Win98 and WinXP. Try using WinXP to make your first 20 minutes call. Then restarts the PC and load Win98, this will let you make another 20 mins call. So ultimately 20+20 minutes = 40 minutes.

Now since the limit of the call per week is 30 minutes, you wont be able to use it much. However, its a great hack. I must agree!

So what are you waiting, Keep calling. My advice to everyone who use this hack, Dont abuse the system. This will only lead to shutting down their services and we will loose a great FREE service.

GizmoCall Hack to make 20 Minutes Calls Everyday

This cool little hack (some people dont like this word *WINK*) or workaround will let you use Gizmocall for another 10 minutes. This will results in 10 mins (official) + 10 mins *wih hack)= 20 mins calls everyday.

Lets see how you can make it happen!

How I discovered it?

Day before yesterday, i was calling home with Gizmocall. I spoke for about 9 mins 45 secs and my phone got cut. I just heard that "Lady voice" saying you only have 30 secs call left with Gizmocall. Suddenly, my call got cut without any reason when i actually had about 13 secs? lol. I was about to close the website and i noticed something funny. I had about 0.13 secs call time left. I was thinking to myself, 0.13 secs? Lets try using it. I re-dialed the last number and to my surprise, It connected my call. I thought now it will disconnect after 0.13 secs and that "GizmoCall Witch" (LOL) will start giving you a lecture about adding credits. Whoa, but you know what...the call just went on and on and on, for 10 full minutes. Of course during that time, my available talk time counter went to 0, but call continued for 10 mins. WOW. It was like total ownage!

How to do it?

First of all, are you new to Gizmocall, then first read this Gizmocall Installation & Usage Guide. I bet you won't find that comprehensive anywhere on the net and not even on Gizmocall website :-)

Now you know how to use Gizmocall, Good.

Remember this hack will work only wih "Registered Members"

Lets say you are calling someone and you are about to complete your 10 minutes. Just hang up when about the counter is about 9:60 secs and you have 40 secs left with your call. This can be lower but i dont suggest you go beyond this. Now Hang-up the phone at around that time. You will notice that you still have about 0.40 secs left with your call. Now you can call the same number or any other number. The Gizmocall will connect your call within those 40 secs, but will then totally ignore the time counter and your call continues for another 10 minutes.

This works perfect and some of the blog readers confirmed it. If you face any issues, Let me know or discuss in comments.

If you like VOIPGuide, dont hesitate to subscribe. Its the best FREE VOIP Blog out there afterall.

Futurephone no longer available, went bust?

One of the readers tipped me about Futurephone. I was curious to find out the truth and to my surprise, they did close the site down. Atleast it says its no more available.

There are many possibilities, Lets look at what might have forced them to close down the shops. One of the strongest felling is they are not able to manage the cost of the call. Futurephone is a minute stealer service (a word coined by Andy Abramason, a fellow uber blogger).

According to Andy, " The Minute Stealers of today buy bulk minutes from the wholesale side of carriers and route the calls over lower costing service options, sometimes the same carrier who sells service already to the same customers. The difference, by buying in bulk the "minute stealers" hope to arbitrage and settle minutes at better margins or sell more volume. "

Now if you are not able to arbritrage the minutes properly, you might end up in trouble. Prolly that's what happened to Futurephone. I was surprised to see that no one knows about the story, but i am sure to see some comments about Futurephone on other VOIP blogs soon.

Now I wonder if this leads to more business going down the same way as "futurephone". What will happen to allfreecalls.net? what about Freecallplanet?

Will keep yuu updated with the latest news on Futurephone and the real deal behind the "Minute Stealers". Perhaps i need some free time to sit down and study their real business plan :-)

Hopefully, people like Gizmocall wont shut down soon! Finmgers Crossed!

VoipBuster to giveaway unlimited FREE CALLS for 1 Euro

Betamax releases almost one new company every two months or so, the latest one was lowratevoip. Voipbuster is however one of the oldest of this whole bunch.

Ultimately to hammer down their biggest competitor, they have taken a pretty bold step to attack Skype right in their head. Their current campaign on almost all betamax provider websites such as voipcheap, lowratevoip etc is "skype increased the rate, its time to switch to Voipcheap or voipbuster and so on. The campaign might be different on other websites but the idea is the same.

I wouldn't really want to talk much about their anti-skype campaigns, so lets forget it for the time being, unless its inspires me and deserves a post.

So getting back to the topic, Voipbuster is about to release a new PRO version of their software. According to them, Voipbuster Pro will be the easiest and most affordable way to get the best out of Voipbuster. This all-in-one package will be launching very soon for just €1 per month.
With Skype Pro you can ONLY make national calls for €0 per minute, but with Voipbuster Pro you can make NATIONAL as well as INTERnational calls for €0 per minute!

Holy Cow!!!!!!!!!!!! if thats true, it would be interesting to see if they giveaway FREE Calls to countries such as India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and other countries known to have fascist VOIP regulations. If it will come into reality, it will definitely become a big hit. 1 euro per month for a unlimited call is worth, a certain free minutes of Gizmocall each day :-)

Currently gizmocall is the best bet though, if you haven't tried it. Go for it

I will keep you all posted on Voipbuster and its availability. If you read this blog regularly, you wont miss a thing :-)

How to Call with Gizmocall- Installation & Usage Guide

Although, my last article has described many elements of this really cool and now widely used FREE service (10 mins each day) called Gizmocall . Some readers have reported saying they are facing some issues with downloading Gizmocall and/or using the service.

I thoughts its in the interest of my readers, I must design a simple installation & Usage Guide for using GizmoCall. Lets first look at the installation Guide.

Note: If you are using Windows Vista, this service is currently not supported, according to industry sources. Although, this is not yet confirmed. I myself can't test it since I don't have a Vista on my PC. Some readers reported they can't get it to work with Vista. However I suggest they should try my guide and give it a try!

Before you start using this guide. Ensure you have latest Flash Installed on your machine. Some people often dont have Flash on firefox. Get the latest version of Flash from here

I will be explaining the whole guide with screenshots to make it easier for everyone.
1)Go to GizmoCall Website
You will notice that the Flash will start to load. Let it load completely. After flash loads completely, You will see a main homepage to make a Call. Now Type in the number you want to call and click the "Call" butto
n.

2) Once yo
u click on "Call", it will call for the Flash Plug-in. Since you are the first time user, you won't have the Flash Plug-in and You will see a Instruction to Download the Plug-in. Download the Plug-in by saving the plug-in on your machine (anywhere you like). Dont open but save the file.

3) Once you download the plug-in the screen will change to this. Waiting for Flash Plugin. This state is seen before you actually install the plug-in. Basically, its trying to find the plug-in since you downloaded.

4) Now locate the file you have downloaded. File name: Gizmocall.exe and Install the file.

5) Now go back to the Website. You will notice that the flash plug-in now loaded. At this stage, the flash plug-in will ask for your permission to access the Micrphone, Webcam and Storage space. Click Allow at all stages. Finally all settings are done and then you need to click "continue Call" (this will appear if you already tried calling without the plug-in in step 1)

6) Now you are all Set to make a Call. Enjoy your FREE Call for 10 minutes everyday absolutely anywhere in the world.

I had to uninstall the Gizmo-Plugin to do the process again & get the screenshots for you guys. Hope it really helps. Let me know if you face any issues.

Happy Calling!

Fring-Make FREE Mobile to Mobile Calls with P2P Mobile VoIP technology

While looking for some mobile VOIP application, I found Fring, A new P2P Mobile VOIP Technology based application. Its definately sounds like a too good to be true solution considering that it will give Mobile to Mobile FREE Calls all over the world bypassing your local mobile operator connect charges.

How Does it Work?

The fring solution establishes a Peer-To-Peer VoIP connection between calling parties, enabling true VoIP sessions between fring enabled handsets and also between handsets and PCs.
