Symmy Mobile VOIP Free Calls

Mobile VOIP is really on a fast track these days with almost 1-2 new providers launching their mobile VOIP services every month. This is of course beneficial for consumers who are looking for a free or cheaper mobile voip services. The biggest benefit of Mobile VOIP is you don't need any special device to use it. Almost everyone today has a mobile and that's good enough to make calls. Of course, you need a softphone client installed but some mobile voip providers even offer Web based mobile VOIP calls.

To join the Mobile VOIP party, A new service has launched by the name of Symmy. Thanks to Teejay for letting us know about this service.

Symmy offers Mobile VOIP through GPRS/3G/WiFi on your mobile phone which can be used anywhere in the world without any restrictions.

The only downside of symmy is it's limited to a few handsets, currently about 30 handsets are supported, mostly Nokia handsets are supported. I hope they would extend this list to more handsets in future.

How do you get Symmy Mobile VOIP?

1) Go to Symmy Website and Register
2) Download Symmy VOIP client (any of the following method)

Installation via computer:
Download Symmy mobile application to your computer. Transfer installation file to your phone using Bluetooth/Infrared/Cable connection. Install Symmy to your mobile phone by running installation file.

Installation via mobile phone:
Download Symmy mobile application using your mobile phone's web browser. Install Symmy to your mobile phone by running installation file.

3) Now login to Symmy from your mobile and enjoy their services.

Microsoft LifeChat ZX-6000 for Wirelsss VOIP

Microsft is all geared up to enter the VOIP market and its even targetting the voip accessories market open, which is set to grow as VOIP growth continues worldwide. Microsoft has unveiled LifeChat ZX-6000, a wireless VOIP headset.

Lifechat ZX-6000 is rip off version of Xbox-360 headset but this headset is compatible with MSN messenger. Although, the compatibility is limited. Its not very clear whether Lifechat supports other messengers such as Google talk etc or any other VOIP softphone client for that matter.

However the features available with Lifechat seem pretty good for a buy.

  • Noise-cancelling Microphone

  • Advanced speaker deliver crystal-clear audio

  • Comfortable earpiece and two adjustable earbands for a custom fit.

  • Four LEDs indicate out-of-range, battery life, charging, and connection status

Microsoft is currently lagging in the VOIP market and their Live messenger is totally underused compared to Google Talk or other VOIP clients. When the world is gearing for VOIP convergence, Microsoft is now trying to put together the whole business in a dish to server together. Hopefully their service is good enough to satisfy VOIP consumer's ever growing hunger.

I would assume that Microsoft will soon launch a dedicated VOIP functionality in their messenger and will try to push the product aggresively. Aint they loosing to Google in almost everything :-)

Lets hope Lifechat ZX-6000 VOIP headset bring life into Microsoft VOIP Communication Strategy and consumers are benefited from the competitive VOIP service and solutions market.

P.S: VOIP Guide is actively looking for writers for the VOIP News section. It's a paid position. Interested people can send email on ut(dot)godmode@gmail.com

EQO Mobile VOIP for Free international Calls to 28 countries

Yesterday I posted about possible growth in the Mobile VOIP market and it's so true with literally 2-3 new mobile voip providers launching almost every month. The mobile VOIP market is really hotting up. Today, I am discussing about this new mobile voip provider offering free calls to 28 key destinations worldwide.

EQO (spelled Echo) is a mobile VOIP service provider and they are offering free international calls to other EQO users and over 95% cheaper international calls to non-EQO users. EQO is currently offering 100 free international call minutes to promote their service. Grab the offer before its over.

You must be wondering every other VOIP solution provider claims that they offer a better service that others, so whom to trust? Which service to go far?

Well, I totally agree with the idea that most of the mobile VOIP are offering almost the same service, SIP compatibility but not many offer support to common mobile phones. Most of the providers today have restrictions over which phone will support their services. The issue is all low end phones are never supported by these mobile voip providers making it difficult for people to use their service. EQO scores over others in compatibility with mobile phones, they literally work with almost all of the mobile handsets currently available in the market. You name it they support it, which i think is really great. However, the only downside is EQO will use your data call connection to make calls. You will need to get a voice and data paln for your mobile. It's not very clear if it works on Wi-fi. If they do, then it could be free if you find a free wi-fi hotspot.

Using EQO is simply, Lets look at how you can use EQO for your mobile.

1) Sign up at EQO
2) Download their mobile VOIP application (EQO will send you a text message with a link to your mobile phone. Just open it, the application will auto-install itself)
3) Start making calls

EQO currently support only 28 countries but hopefully they will add more in future. So go check out EQO and make free international calls

Wifi Mobile VOIP lets you make free calls

After writing a bunch of free voip solution review posts, I am back to articles :-) VOIP Guide gets two types of visitors, one looking for Free international calls and others looking to read some interesting articles such as Future of VOIP or VOIP in China . Today, I am writing for the article reader.

So where exactly this mobile voip market is heading to? Lets look at whats happening in the mobile voip market, a snapshot of latest events.

1) Truphone mVOIP was blocked by T-mobile (They did earlier). Fring was smarter to get away.

2) Yeigo mobile voip launched recently.
3) Tokiva (not really mobile voip) but uses mobile as a platform for making calls.
4) Fring launched their latest version and extended support to windows based mobiles phones.

Where are we heading with Mobile VOIP? I would say totally Free VOIP Calls? Wonder how?

People always think how mobile voip can be free? Well it can if you use a combination of Wifi + Mobile VOIP software to make calls, provided both parties use the same.

What do you need to make free mobile VOIP calls?

1) Get yourself a latest Wifi compatible Mobile (N80 or N65 is a good ot
2) Download Fring
3) Find a FREE hotspot at Jwire
4) Get connected to Fring using that wifi for FREE
5) Now ask your friends to do the same.
6) Roam anywhere in the world as long as you are connected to Wifi and Fring.
7) Make free calls even while roaming and even without a SIM card.

Well although, all this sounds like a big deal. In the next couple of years, even tom dick and harry will be doing this. Mobile voip should be more popular than landline voip in 1-2 years. Anyone remembers the mobile wave in early 2000? Expect a similar wave in 2008 for mobile voip. Its gonna be a mad rush :-)

Although, I seriously hope mobile voip remains FREE, i meant totally FREE :-)

Earthcaller VOIP beta offers free calls worldwide

This is the second time i got a tip-off about this new VOIP service still in beta. This time from a definitive source, the Vice President of Jaduka (Network IP) has emailed me about their new VOIP service offering. It seems this news is exclusively available to VOIPGuide and can't be found anywhere else. Thanks Eric for letting me know about your new VOIP service.

Didn't we all love Jaduka? Yes we do. The best of the lot isn't it. We found no alternative that can even match the quality of Jaduka VOIP.

It seems Jaduka founders, NetworkIP is all set to release a new VOIP service called Earthcaller. This service will be offering free calls worldwide. I didn't manage to get more details about the service, but I will follow-up with Eric.

Alright, Let me be very frank with you all, I tried testing earthcaller for last 2 days but it didn't seem to work for me for a very odd reason. It kept on giving me "Domain error mismatch" error. I almost gave up but hang on, I tried the service today, Whoa it works. I tried calling Singapore local number, Malaysia mobile, India mobile, Russia mobile, USA toll-free all works just perfect.

I can't believe Earthcaller is offering all this for FREE without any limit, well it didn't seem there was any limit. There is no need to register, just dial number you wish.

So how are you going to use this service. (Note: Earthcaller only works in Internet Explorer)

1) Go to Earthcaller
2) You will need to download a small ActiveX component( you will be prompted)
3) Now dial the desired number in the following format (very similar to Jaduka)

a) For US/Canada Numbers- Just dial the number without 1 (country code) or you can dial with country code(1), it works both way.

b)For all international numbers- Dial 011-Countrycode-areacode-phonenumber format. So for e.g Calling India landline, you will dial 011912226021111

Bingo, You will get a message window with messages such as,

Registering to SIP Proxy.
Dialing...
Trying to register.
Registered successfully.
Response: Trying.
Response: Session Progress.
Success to connect.

at success to connect stage, you phone call is actually connected. Talk as much as you want, Its free calls worldwide.

With Earthcaller, We found a the best free voip service for free worldwide calls. Lets hope it last long.

Fring VOIP to support Windows Mobile

After being one of the most successful mobile VOIP firms in europe with some fierce competition from rival company Truphone, Fring is all set to dominate the market by providing access to their service from windows based mobile phones. When truphone is struggling with T-mobile on mobile VOIP blocked calls issues, fring is enjoying full operational capability.

Fring recently started supporting Symbian for Nokia version and now extending the reach by providing access to their VOIP service through all Windows 5.0 and Windows 6.0 handsets. That's a great news for high-end business customers, who love to work with Windows based mobile phones. Fring can now save money for them while they are roaming.

Under the new version, the customers can enjoy:
  • Full fring mVoIP functionality – free calls, chat & presence over any Wi-Fi, 3G or GPRS connection
  • integrated contact list for all Skype, Google Talk, MSN & GSM buddies
  • Twitter support
  • Skype-out and other SIP providers support.
  • Use Fring VOIP without a SIM card and still make calls.
Get your Fring version

The mobile VOIP market is heating up with new providers but its offering more choices to consumers. Fring will continue to be innovative and consumer focused to lead the market in the coming years when they will most probably face competition from newer startups and old buddies. In my opinion, Fring is the jajah of Mobile VOIP. Takeovers anyone?

Tokiva VOIP for free phone calls

Since Jaduka stopped offering free worldwide calls (it still works for many countries but not india) VOIP Guide was on the lookout for a new free VOIP startup for free phone calls anywhere in the world. It seems we finally found a solution for the time being and I hope it lasts long.

Tokiva VOIP (Canadian VOIP firm) has developed a global mobile VoIP platform (MVP) that connects VoIP withtokiva mobile operators in over 200 countries world wide. Tokiva offers free (15 minutes but you can get more, read my TIPS below) and cheaper calls to over 200 countries including India. The only country not available is north korea. Well besides Bush who else wanna call north korea :-)

Users can use Tokiva through a simple web based interface very similar to Jajah or they can download a tiny application on your mobile and connect through WAP.

Now you guys must be wondering how to make Free Calls with Tokiva. Well it's not a big deal. Tokiva offers free 15 minutes call per new registration (They do verify email). You get more free credits if you invite your friends to Tokiva, so more free minutes are credited to your account for each signup. I guess its about 5 minutes per signup. Considering you get 50 new friends to signup, thats like 250 FREE minutes, what else you want for free? :-)

Go Signup at Tokiva and make Free calls worldwide.

cheap international calls with Globe 7

Many people who visited VOIP Guide during the last 6 months have always been complaining that i never discuss about Globe 7 and how it can be used to make cheap international calls worldwide. Well, honestly I am not a great fan of Ad-based or video-based free calling methods. However the latest globe7 voip softphone is worth a post.

I managed to interview
Yogesh Patel of Globe7. Yogesh is currently visiting Singapore for CommunicAsia, I managed to get hold of him on the phone.

During the quick interview, Yogesh stated that Globe7 is and will be the cheap international calls provider in the world. As i remember, Globe 7 used to offer free worldwide calls in lieu of watching videos. When asked, Yogesh said they had to stop free calls offer since people were not getting the proper benefit through the sponsored video calls. Globe 7 is currently offering 0.0490 cents to India, which is way lower than some of the other competitors. Globe7 believes rather than offering low quality free calls its better to offer quality cheap international calls to end users.

Yogesh also stated that Globe7's business model is not to make money from minutes. They are trying to pass the full benefit to users by giving the same wholesale rates. So how exactly is Globe7 making money? Well there is a catch, those videos you watch keep globe7 running! Those videos pay the bills @ globe7.

With over 23 Million downloads and 3.5 million active users covering 187 countries across 7 continents, Globe7 is currently one of the most used VOIP softphone in the world. Globe7 is also one of the cheapest international call service provider in the world.

TIP: Globe7 offers a free incoming number for it's gold members, if you like to become a gold member for FREE, then you need to verify yourself. Become a gold member

globe7 now available on Windows (including Vista), Mac and Linux (Including fedora). Its definately one of the very few voip softphones to support almost all OS.

I will be interviewing Yogesh once again post-communic asia. If you guys have specific request or value addition to the Globe7 software or want any specific feature in the next version, please post under comments.

No more free voip calls to UAE

About a couple of days back, Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA) in UAE announced that they will allow VOIP operators to provide cheaper voip calls in UAE region. Now suddenly they supplemented their initial announcement saying UAE will not allow any free voip services and only Etisalat and du will use VOIP for their services. That means more monopoly and less cheaper calls to uae residents. Oh yeah, its time to totally forget free calls.

I always wonder when the western countries are looking to increase VOIP penetration why the east is so obsessed with traditional PSTN lines? I agree that old is gold but Some things need to change, especially in indian sub continent and middle east where markets are not run by customer's sentiments but more by what telecom companies want.

In asia largely in indian subcontinent, telecom regulators are puppets. They are the perfect seat warmers, all regulations are framed and done by the telecom operators for their own benefit. Even today, DID termination in India is illegal. Why on earth its illegal coz some companies loose money? Why don't you make it legal and let the foreign operator pay you a fixed levy? This will never happen unless telecom companies stop calling the shots. We all know that will never happen.

Lets get ready to pay more for making calls (forget cheaper) to Dubai and rest of the middle east.

Gizmo project VOIP to interoperate

About couple of weeks back, VOIP Guide discussed how important it is for VOIP companies to interoperate with other VOIP providers and provide a single access platform for users. I guess Gizmo Project is slowly moving towards it. They atleast made an attempt by providing access to other messengers such as AIM, MSN, Gtalk and yahoo messenger. However it's not really VOIP interoperability but now users can call their friends on MSN, Gtalk and Yahoo messenger for FREE. They can now use only Gizmo Project to call them on different networks.

Besides this, if you don't know about Gizmo Project. Its a a great VOIP service, to make free calls to many countries not supported by other softwares. I strongly suggest you all should read our Gizmo Project review and guide. This guide should help you understand how to make free calls with Gizmo Project.

Besides that Gizmo Project is a exception VOIP softphone and provides some exclusive features such as Asterix PBX support, SIP compatibility, A free incoming number, free voicemail, free conference calling and many other.

if you don't have Gizmo project yet, it about time you should download gizmo project

Rakweb Web based VOIP

Raketu, is not a traditional VOIP company and they have proved that they are trying to go further by providing multiple bundled services and even providing multiple options to its users/customers to use their VOIP service. A few months back they started Launchpad, a IPTV platform to stream p2p video over Raketu VOIP softphone.

Since we all know that a VOIP softphone has many issues such as non-compatiblity with OS (e.g most of the voip softphones don't support Mac OS), many people on VOIP Guide have reported issues in using Mediaringtalk or icall in the past. All this puts a questions mark on how companies should offer their VOIP services. Whats better? Web based VOIP or VOIP softphone? Well Raketu answered this by providing both the platforms and making their intentions clear that they are very much in VOIP business to provide quality VOIP service.

Raketu has formally launched their web based VOIP platform named as RakWeb. Well there is no special website (atleast not yet) to access their web based VOIP service. You can access Rakweb from Raketu website. Rakweb will offer almost all the same services their customers have been accessing via Raketu VOIP softphone.

Raketu is offering Free calls to over 40 countries and to other countries some good cheap rates. Calling between Raketu users is totally FREE but if you want to call a non-Raketu user, then you need to pay. However using Raketu is extremely easy. It works just like Jajah.

You enter your phone number (landline or mobile phone), then enter the destination number and Click Call.

So if you don't have a account with Raketu, its perhaps time to get one

Free pc to phone calls by Palcalls VOIP service

VOIP guide is now 6 months old and I was eager to post something about free pc to phone calls that will make some of my reader happy. This post is going to be a massive hit with all my readers from Phillipines, Mexico and some other countries. Wonder why? Today, I will be discussing a free pc to phone call voip solution that wil enable people from phillipines to make free calls to USA, Canada, UK, Puerto Rico, Austrlia and New Zealand.

In fact I already discussed this free pc to phone calls provider named PalCalls however that post got ignored coz of some of the other free calling services. I hope this post will help people from certain countries to make free pc to phone calls.

Let see how Palcalls actually work. Palcalls is based on adverising based VOIP free calls service model. In this kind of model, You see advertisements and in lieu of that make free pc to phone calls.

Now Palcalls is currently limited to only certain countries and before you ask let me you, India is not supported. However I submitted them a feedback today insisting that they should support free pc to phone calls to india, Pakistan, Bangladesh etc.

Lets see what Palcalls offers us at the moment,

You can make calls to any of the following countries:
  • US (dial 1 area code and phone number)
  • Canada (dial 1 area code and phone number)
  • Puerto rico (dial 1 area code and phone number)
  • UK (dial 44(2) and area code and phone number)
  • Australia (dial 61 and area code and phone number)
  • New zealand (dial 64 and area code and phone number)

However there is a catch. You can make unlimited free pc to phone calls between the countries listed above. Thats great but you can't make calls to other countries listed below which palcalls support. But countries listed below can call any of the above countries but can't call any of the countries below.

  • Mexico
  • Argentina
  • Costa rica
  • Philippines
  • South africa
  • Malawi

Many of you are confused by now so let me clarify this for you.

Case1: I live in Philippines and i want to make free pc to phone calls to USA: YES I can make free pc to phone calls to usa.

Case 2: I live in Philippines and i want to call south africa: NO i cant make free pc to phone calls to south africa.

Case 3: I live in USA and want to call australia: YES, I can make free pc to phone calls to australia.

hope that clarifies your doubt. I am sure most of the readers from the above countries will enjoy this offer. I am confident that it will last long and lets hope they add india, pakistan etc to the free calling country list.

Go make free pc to phone calls at palcalls

Business VOIP looks promising in 2007

VOIP Guide had covered many articles on Free voip and free international calls in the past, but some of your readers belong to the business category and they always requested VOIP guide to review if business VOIP can be of any help in saving cost.

Although, in today's article I won't be discussing about any specific business VOIP service I will try to discuss how Business VOIP might perform in 2007.

Since the last couple of month, investors around the world are discussing how US market slowdown might impact economies worldwide. I read those stories specifically written by bearish market analyst about housing bubbles and auto industry slowdowns in USA. I always wonder if those stories are written exclusively for some companies :-) I myself is a heavy investor in multiple markets across europe/USA and asia was keeping a close eye on investment trends. Although I initially thought that market would tumble at some stage, it never did. Especially after the recent Fed meetings, the trends look promising.

How this bearish and bullish market trend will possibly impact the growth of Business VOIP. Some people always relate growth to market bullishness. In my opinion however, VOIP is a great arsenal for businesses to save cost, especially when it's tougher to sustain market downfalls. Whether it's bullish or bearish market, there is surely an upward trend as more and more businesses switch fully or partially to business VOIP. Businesses are saving millions of $$$ per year.

One of the other major benefit is IP to IP VOIP services used by some businesses, so called VOIP via VPN services. These services literally rock especially during disasters such as earthquakes etc. Recently during the taiwan earthquake, I lost contact with my fellow koreans via IDD however we could re-route all calls via VOIP and still continue the business. These days for all businesses, contingency planning is equally important. Businesses can loose a potential customer if they are down for even minutes. For data diversification and BCP, VOIP is the best choice for businesses today.

The future for business VOIP looks very promising and 2007 will be a year to remember when more and more leading businesses are switching or investing in Business VOIP services.

Microsoft to offer Click-to-Connect VOIP Calls

As americas moves closer to being a VOIP nation, many companies are trying to get their hands on VOIP services. Intel recently funded Jajah and thereby trying to get piece of the VOIP action. Almost every month a new VOIP start-ups crowding the market (mountain view seems to be the favorite destination. everyone trying to Big G eh?)

Microsoft can't stay away from action. In fact, many people don't know for the fact that Microsoft Netmeeting was one of the most oldest form of VOIP. Unfortunately not marketed well, Netmeeting was limited to Networking people. Microsoft lately started testing their Office communication application to leverage on VOIP. They would be bundling these apps with their forthcoming office products. Bundling your applications is always the easy way to reach the audience, but i seriosly hope the message is read properly.

Moving on, Microsoft will now power their Microsoft Live Maps service with Verizon VOIP Click-to-Connect software. This new feature will let people place calls to local businesses, such as shops, businesses and restaurants, directly over the internet. Calls are routed over Verizon’s SIP Gateway network, and do not require an adapter or any other special equipment. I am sure people will enjoy this since they no more have to write down those numbers after they search for a business.

If you notice the screenshot, I searched for a Italian Restaurant and got some listing. If i hover over one
of the restaurant, it shows an option to "Call for Free". Thats Click-to-connect feature. You can then type your number or use computer to make a call. If you give your number, you will get a callback, once you pickup, it will be automatically connected to the business you were looking for.

Click-to-Connect is a great way to save money on local calls especially calls to businesses in USA. :-)

Top 10 VOIP Features

During the last 6 months at VOIP Guide, I have noticed at these days VOIP Services are either getting too obvious or doesnt offer anything unique. Some of the recent VOIP startups haven't impressed me much. I don't want to take names but a average VOIP user can surely pick on them.

What these services are lacking is innovation. VOIP is no more plain telephony, everyone knows that. Skype is a household name, they made VOIP famous. Then came Vonage, Packet 8 etc to popularise the VOIP home line market and replced traditional telecom services at large. However, VOIP has now come of age, its in a phase where it needs more accessories than fuel. The growth of VOIP services is evident especially in the markets such as UK, Europe and Asia, but people will be looking at innovative VOIP service and those plain old VOIP services will loose the market share. Just look at what's happening to Skype. Its a classic example of how people move ahead and look for better options.

In my opinion, people will be looking to do more things with VOIP than what they are doing today. What are these more things, this list is my picks for that "VOIP Service".

1) VOIP & IPTV collaboration
2) Totally FREE VOIP calls (This could be Ad-based model, Audio Ads could be feasible)
3) Free Call-Forwarding facilities (for Flat charge)
4) Simple Web Based (Voice 2.0) Service
5) Freedom from PC based VOIP services. Call toll-free numbers and use VOIP service.
6) Satellite VOIP? Sounds Weird? How about Iridium likes?
7) VOIP Providers Conglomerate for Industry Standards and Colloboration.
8) VOIP Providers Interoperability. If you signup for Vonage, you should get FREE Calls to Pakcet8 etc.
9) VOIP Video Calls -Some providers already offering.
10) E911- Hope everyone get ready for this.

If you think, this list has any more features worth adding, Please drop your comments. Hope VOIP Companies can provide us better creative and innovative solutions in future.

12voip Free VOIP Calls service

Almost when VOIP Guide gave up on new Free Calling services, another regular reader Ranjt pointed me to this new betamax service called 12voip. I always wonder from where betamax comes out with names :-) 12voip doesn't make sense to me. Jokes, apart but Betamax keep rolling their new VOIP services and increase voip provider portfolio almost every 2 months.

However, at first look there is nothing great about 12voip besides that they offering unlimited free calls to multiple countries as long as you pay 10 euros for 3 months to keep your account active. That means to continue to make free calls to these destinations (some rare destinations included such as russia, malaysia, peru, portugal etc.) you need to top-up every 3 months. Yearly cost will be around 40 euros. Which is not all that bad, but I always hate betamax customer service. I meant they virtually don't have one.

Any hints, why they provide such FREE and low cost VOIP service. Since many of you are interested in knowing whether 12voip offers service for India. Well they do offer cheaper calls to India and it costs around 0.100 cents (I guess its 0.1), which is way low compared to other competitors.

Overall 12voip sounds like a good deal but I wouldn't go and top up my account in a hurry. A 10 euro top-up and 3 months usage might be good idea to evaluate their service and voice quality. Betamax voip service often have difrerent voice qualities for e.g voipcheap is better than voipdiscount

so if you want to test 12voip, Go download 12voip

Rebtel launches Mobile VOIP platform

Rebtel, aleading mobile VOIP & free international call provider announced that they are now offering a new Mobile platform for new signups. With the new mobile platform, Rebtel users don't need a personal computer to access rebtel services such as new signups, account manager etc. The new Rebtel mobile platform will be accessible from your mobile phones and you can signup to Rebtel.

Rebtel is currently offered in 37 countries. They are currently offering 10 free calls per month. Another great feature of Rebtel is they charge you for local call charges rather than international call charges.

How does this whole thing works?

1) you tell Rebtel which number you want to call.
2) Rebtel dials the number.
3) Your friend will see a local number to call you back.
4) you should stay online and don't cut the call.
5) Once other party calls that local number, rebtel will connect to you.

You pay for local charges and other party pay the same and the international call is free. Very innovative way to save money. So basically its free international call at a local call rate, in other words its a cheaper international call.

Go signup fpor Rebtel

Vonage VOIP to cost more?

Vonage, a leading VOIP service provider in USA & Canada is facing a lot of heat lately. Vonage really had a tough 2007. They had to freeze new signups in USA and now US courts ruled against vonage in a 2006 USF charges case. USF charges known as Universal Service Fund requiring telecommunications companies to contribute to a fund that supports service for schools, libraries, and rural and low-income households. When the USF charges were applied to VOIP companies in 2006, Vonage went to the court claiming that they won't pay such charges since it should not be applied to VOIP companies. They didnt want VOIP companies to be treated as traditional PSTN telecom companies. However the court has ruled against Vonage, so now it seems they will have to pay USF.

I guess vonage will now keep quiet and play safe. They already lot of trouble to clear up. I wonder if these charges will be passed on to the consumers or will be absorbed as operations cost. It will be really way too much to absorb as cost. That means, its highly likely that Vonage will increase the cost for new customers. That would definately make it more unattractive for consumers in USA when they are looking for a deal.

Recently, there are new VOIP companies trying to get the hold of the market share. Companies such as PhonePower or Lingo or Comcast are offering some unbelivable offers to customers. Vonage will have tough time competing with this new kids on the block. However Vonage Canada is doing pretty well unlike their US counterpart. Vonage can hope to do well in the canadian VOIP market.

Jaduka VOIP Update

When VOIP Guide posted about Jaduka VOIP service a few days back. The post was read over 6700 times in just 1week. Almost 1000 times per day, the word was out faster than I thought. The all famous voip hack was used by thousands of people worldwide to make free calls to various countries mainly India. However now it seems Jaduka realized their mistake of offering such service, which they never thought anyone outside USA will ever use. Now since Jaduka has stopped providing international calls for free, I hope they still offer that great service for USA residents. Honestly, VOIP Guide would rate Jaduka in Top 5 most awesome VOIP services in the world for sheer quality of service. The voice quality is phenomenal and almost equals local phone calls voice quality.

Now you must be wondering since Jaduka fixed their bugs, What next? First of all, Jaduka is still offering free calls to USA and Canada so please continue to use it.

VOIP guide will be busy in the coming weeks to find a good alternative VOIP solution. Be rest assured about that. However in the mean time, we strongly suggest you read some of the post listed below which can offer free calls to some destinations.

1) Free Calls to China: Mediaring offers free calls to China, its a very good offer. You can make unlimited calls but each call last for 10 mins.

2) Free Calls to USA: I still recommend using icall but you can also use mediaringtalk for the same.

3) Free calls to Canada: Same as above. Use mediaringtalk or icall.

4) Mobile VOIP service: If you have latest wi-fi handsets or Nokia N95, E60 etc, you can use this service to make free calls worldwide.

Remember, VOIP Guide will find a good VOIP solution for the readers. Just stick around and yeah, share your tips.
